Stress, Food and all things Sparkly

I met a wonderfully inspiring lady this week. Her name is Anna and she’s a Nutritional Therapist at Bedford Integrative Health. I always feel empowered when I meet other business men and women who are passionate about what they do, and Anna is no exception.
I originally met Anna at the Bedfordshire Business Women afternoon tea last week. I recognised then that Anna “sparkled” when she spoke about her work and I was keen to meet with her to talk about her thoughts on the relationship between food and stress.

So many of my clients who talk about the negative stress in their lives will often say that one of their symptoms is that they have an over dependency on the “wrong” type of foods (like caffeine and the sugary stuff, like biscuits and sweets) to keep them going; some lose their appetite altogether.

Anna and I talked enthusiastically for nearly two hours about food and how she helps people. She doesn’t tell people what they can and can’t eat and makes a point of telling people it’s not all about beans and salads! Instead she focuses on workable programmes which you can follow as she helps you tailor a way of eating which has your health at heart, particularly if allergies are an issue.

Anna took a great interest in my work in dreams and in particular how lack of sleep can affect your memory.

Stress is definitely a leading cause of sleep problems, especially in our busy 24/7 society, as the Great British Sleep Survey in 2011 identified that over 70% of people lay awake worrying about the past or future.

Overall it was a superb meeting and I look forward to meeting Anna again to talk about mutual ways of supporting our clients.
